francisco and about 60 in oakland. that's a look at weather. gianna, how's traffic? >> it's not too bad. we are starting to see a few break lights at the altamont pass westbound 580. eastbound 580 there is still roadwork in effect north greenville to north flynn at least one lane closed until with 11:00 today so expect delays on the eastbound side, as well. eastbound highway 4 at loveridge wrapping up in the next few minutes. right now all lanes still shut down for roadwork through there and better news along 101. we had three lanes completely shut down northbound near 92. that's now been cleared. we should get back up to speed within the next few minutes. accident blocking one lane still very early no delays as you work your way through there westbound 80 clear and in fact the eastshore freeway commute looks good. mass transit on time. bart under way with no delays. bart, ace, muni, caltrain and your ferries all no delays. there are street closures near folsom and essex. we are learning that the essex street ramp to the eastbound bay bridge connector is shut down. so we'll let you though w

are in the hospital this morning following an overnight shooting near lake merritt in oakland. officers found a 50-year-old man shot outside a liquor store on east 18th street just before 10:30 last night. they found three more victims just a few blocks away. one person is in critical condition. three others in serious condition. >>> san francisco police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a man in his 20s last night. officers found the man just before 8:00 near grove and buchanan streets. the man had been shot in the stomach and the leg. he died at the hospital an hour later. >>> the new storm hitting the bay area this morning has some people preparing for more possible flooding. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is in larkspur, one of the spots where 101 can see a lot of water build up. anne. >> reporter: i'm here at lucky drive near larkspur right off of highway 101. now, normally when it rains, we see a lot of flooding in the road here behind me. we don't see much right now. so that's the good news. the rain is coming down but is not coming down very h

down towards danville. elsewhere the nimitz 880 through oakland, they picked up some overnight roadwork in lanes. northbound and southbound both fine past the coliseum. and some drive times for you in the east bay. westbound 80 that eastshore freeway commute from the carquinez bridge to the maze clocking in at 19 minutes right now. it is slow and go through livermore. that's why you see the yellow drive time from the altamont pass towards 680 but the nimitz and westbound 24 both fine. bart on time and a quick check. bay bridge. it looks like the fastrak lanes, the middle lanes are still getting by okay but check out the cash lanes. we are seeing delays beyond the first overcrossing >>> they are not done yet. the highest tides of the year are washing over california coastlines today. the so-called king tides submerged beaches all along the shoreline yesterday. in some spots, the water rushed right into town. the tides hit their peak yesterday around mid-morning. some areas the water rose by just a couple of inches but others it was up by several feet. we found a business this mill valle

this morning up the nimitz freeway through oakland. plus just getting word of what sounds like a pretty bad accident in daly city. we'll have details coming up. >>> good morning, everyone. it's tuesday, december 11. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. 5:01. we are on the scene of breaking news in the east bay at an apartment fire that started about an hour ago. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in hayward getting the latest. >> reporter: that apartment completely destroyed and there was a mother who lived there with her young son. she told us that she thinks somebody threw something into her home and that's what caused it to set on fire. so arson investigators are on scene. they are trying to sort all of this out but we are on dixon street right by the bart station. this was a one-alarm fire but again it caused significant damage and firefighters say that that family won't be able to return home. nobody was hurt. pg&e crews also on scene securing some lines and we are still waiting to get some more information but as i said arson investigators are on scene. elissa h

outside. taking you toward the east bay you can see some of that there near berkeley and also near oakland but it's scattered and that's what we're going to see throughout the morning hours and tapering off this afternoon the still it is a wet and breezy start to the day. some of those winds 17 miles per hour into fairfield. out over the bay skies mostly cloudy, continuing to see some of those light showers at this time. the temperatures aren't too bad. mainly into the 50s outside but we have our own reporter out there right now, elissa harrington out there in the storm. how's it look out there right now? >> reporter: well, good morning. it's been raining on and off throughout morning. right now it's drizzling but traffic is moving smoothly as drivers head over the bay bridge, although it is very soggy out there. now, here's some video taken from last night and early this morning. people are of course breaking out the umbrellas and rain jackets. these showers will continue through the morning but should clear up by the afternoon. conditions on the bay bridge are wet with some large puddles

of oakland raiders head coach dennis allen has died. allen had been away from the team since sunday to be with his father in the dallas area. we are told 66-year-old grady allen died last night from heart complications. he was a linebacker for the falcons from 1968 to 1972. dennis allen does plan though to return to oakland to coach thursday's home game against the denver broncos. >>> activists on both side of the gay marriage issue on california are learning to be patient. it turns out a prop 8 appeal will be on the u.s. supreme court justices' agenda again this friday. but it doesn't mean they will act on it. the court has no deadline for acting on cases. the court made the announcement this morning saying several gay marriage appeals are still on the table. friday is the fourth time that prop 8 and other cases concerning the "defense of marriage act" will be on the justices' agenda. we should know by friday afternoon or next monday morning if the judges issue an order this time. >>> a federal judge is blocking the state from enforcing its gay therapy law set to go into effect on

harrington, cbs 5. >>> flames tore through an east oakland building overnight. now police say squatters may be to blame. crews battled the one-alarm fire around 1:30 at 64th and international boulevard. flames sparked back up around 4 a.m. and they were put out. the building may have housed several homeless. no injuries were reported. >>> the same building caught fire back in august. it took firefighters about half hour to put out those flames. at the time it was an appliance store called budget appliances. >>> investigators in the east bay want to know if several pipe bombs are related. there have been four found in the last few days. the latest was found outside pleasant hill elementary school. the latest bomb was found outside the school while classes were in session yesterday. had pleasant hill police got the walnut creek bomb squad there to deal with that device. >> we hope there aren't more. we hope it won't be a rash of them. >> over the weekend, five teenagers were arrested in pleasant hill for a mailbox bombing on friday. they are accused of planting a bomb at a pleasant hill high

3 a.m., police arrived on scene at oakland road near brokaw to find a man with at least one stab wound. he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. police have not identified a suspect. >>> antioch police are searching for a second suspect after a robbery, police chase and this fiery crash. officers say the two people robbed the bonfair market on 10th street around 1:00 in the morning. police caught up to them and started a chase that came to a crashing halt when the car went into a wall on west trigalis road and burst into flames. police are still trying to figure out who the second suspect is and where he went. >>> a suspect is hospitalized after another police chase ended with a crash in vacaville this morning. there is no word yet on why the chp was chasing the driver or where the pursuit began. we do not suspect car crashed -- we do know the suspect car crashed east of interstate 80. details of the suspect's conditions are not released. >>> a hit-and-run crash in san francisco last night has left a woman with serious injuries at about 9:00 on christmas tree point in th

back to you. >>> we continue to follow some developing news out in oakland. they're working to reopen one lane of northbound 88 # approaching fruitvale but in the meantime, all lanes have been blocked for at least a half hour. they've been detouring cars off to the high street exit. so there are some slight delays in the area. fortunately traffic a extra light of course because it is christmas morning. so you can see our sensors are not picking up a whole lot of slowing but again just a heads- up for a while all lanes have been temporarily shut down because of an overturned injury crash approaching fruitvale avenue. also in oakland eastbound lanes of 580 approaching mcarthur we have an accident there blocking few lanes. your bridges, golden gate bridge superlight traffic both directions northbound and southbound. 101 between san francisco and marin county the silicon valley ride westbound 237 looks good. no delay at the guadalupe parkway or 101 and once again the east bay drive times still mostly in the clear. >>> liz, thanks. a town in upstate new york is remembering two firefighters

no need for any umbrellas. but a jacket probably a good idea. 41 right now in concord, 45 in oakland, 48 degrees in san francisco. so it's because of this high pressure that is what's keeping us so dry for the next 24 hours or so. but we are watching this low and that's going to bring us some rain. looks like probably friday afternoon-ish is when we're probably going to get hit with some wet weather. in the meantime this afternoon's highs a lot of low to mid-50s across the bay area. and yeah, so not going to warm up much by later on this afternoon and then a chance of rain returns as soon as tomorrow. so we'll show you that seven- day forecast coming up. in the meantime, traffic-wise, we have a new situation developing on the great highway. we just got word from the police department that the southbound great highway is shut down between lincoln way and sloat boulevard. with all that rain and the storm yesterday, of course, causing some drifting sand, so that's not unusual to see those kind of closures. also. an overturn injury accident southbound 680 approaching sunol boulevard off-ramp
